Leaving the Church…
Posted on March 3, 2013
I believe the number one reason people in America are leaving the church is because it’s RELEVANT.
I didn’t say irrelevant, I said RELEVANT.
Churches have taken a 2,000 year old faith, dressed it up in skinny jeans and tried to sell it as “cool” to our culture. It’s not cool.. and it’s not modern. All churches are doing is packaging a cheap knockoff of the world… and it’s not working.
As the quote says, “When the ship is in the ocean, everything’s fine. When the ocean gets into the ship, you’re in trouble.”
Churches have come to value the famous “christian” athlete that says something about Jesus on TV, or the words of a “christian” rock star from stage, or the books of their favorite “christian” author, much more than they value the reading of scripture for 5 minutes!
Most churches are just “wanna-be’s” hoping the world will think they are cool too!
People that see the church as trying to be cool… mock it. In the churches effort to be “like the world” they’ve become less of who they actually are and should be. The middle-aged pastor trying to look like he’s 20-something isn’t relevant. Dress him up in hipster clothes, fake glasses, and hand him a latte… it doesn’t matter. It’s not relevant… it’s sadly comical.
Church… please understand… It’s not the big and flashy that makes the biggest impact… It’s the simple, easy, and personal. #refocus

Whilst reading this I literally have on skinny jeans with a Latte in my hand. Not kidding. I hope there is also something to be said about “the inside of the cup?”
Keep preachin’ it Greg. It always gives us something to chew on. Never a bad thing.
