Week # 2 – Letter “B” stands for Barista

As if I didn’t write about a touchy subject last week… I can see all the “unsubscription” requests coming to my inbox already!

In 2013, I will not be purchasing any coffee, espresso, latte, tea, or any other specialty drink from any barista from any coffee shop. Here’s why I won’t be seeing any Barista’s in 2013.

1. Its a financial thing.

If I buy just one $4 drink from Starbucks everyday for one year… that will cost me $1460 a year. I am not against coffee, or barista’s… and if you and I end up hanging out at Starbucks, or another coffee shop… feel free to order whatever you want. I just want to put $1460 in my pocket this year instead of giving it to a Barista. I have some friends that buy 2, or 3 drinks a day from Starbucks. That’s a lot of $$$. For a dad with 4 kids, I gotta save where I can.

2. It’s a social status thing.

I wonder if some people who buy specialty drinks from Starbucks do it to fit in socially. Is it a status symbol to have your Starbucks cup or mug in your hand while walking into a meeting? Seems like I see a lot of Instagram/Facebook pics of Starbucks cups. Are there bragging rights if you made it to Gold Level Member status… or if you have one of those super elite Stainless Steel Starbucks Cards?

3. It’s an addictive thing.

I hear often, “I need my coffee, I cant function without my morning coffee”. I suppose we all have our vices… but I don’t want mine to be specialty drinks at Starbucks. I know many of my close friends are thinking… “Greg, lets talk about your addiction to Mountain Dew!” We will friends…. Next week… and I think you’ll be quite surprised…
